One of the easiest ways to add decorative elements and more curb appeal to a fence is an additional lattice top. Typically, a lattice will be used with a picture-frame style fence and will be 1-2 feet in height, depending on your preference. Here are five lattice style ideas you could use for your fence.

Diagonal Lattice

One of the most common and most affordable options, the diagonal lattice is a great choice for anyone who wants a simple addition to the top of their fence. This style uses diagonally crossing slats of wood which creates diamond shaped holes in between.

Privacy Lattice

Also known as a "triple lattice," this style uses an additional slat of wood that is offset to cover up the holes of a traditional diagonal lattice. The final design is similar to the diagonal lattice, except it's fully covered up and there are no spaces to see through, thus adding additional privacy.

Square Lattice

This style uses vertical and horizontal slats of wood crossed over each other, which results in square holes. This is a good choice for anyone looking for a more modern design.

Piano Key Lattice

The piano-key lattice uses single pieces of wood that are equally spaced out vertically along the top of the fence. This creates a very elegant appearance. It's also one of the pricier options because it requires careful custom work. Each piece of the lattice is individually measured, cut, and installed.

Horizontal Lattice

Here's a custom design that matches well with a horizontal nail-up fence. It uses rows of thinner slats along the top of the fence to create a lattice for a fence style that typically wouldn't have one.
